Al-Baour discusses strengthening Libyan-Serbian relations in various fields during his visit to Belgrade.

Belgrade – March 5, 2026 (LANA) – The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity, Taher Al-Baour, met today in Belgrade, the Serbian capital, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, to discuss Libyan-Serbian relations in various fields.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity stated that the two sides exchanged views on a number of current regional and international issues, most notably the situation in the Middle East and the Arabian Gulf region. They emphasized the importance of supporting regional and international efforts aimed at promoting dialogue to resolve conflicts and achieve regional and international security and stability.
The Ministry added that at the conclusion of their meeting, both sides affirmed their commitment to continuing joint efforts to develop bilateral relations and to intensify communication, coordination, and political consultation in the coming period to strengthen the partnership between the two countries.
The Ministry also stated that Al-Baour and Đurić co-chaired an expanded meeting that included officials from both the Libyan and Serbian sides, during which they discussed the prospects for Libyan-Serbian relations and ways to enhance and develop them.
The acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity emphasized the importance of the harmonious bilateral relations between the two countries during the meeting.
He noted the distinguished historical ties between the two nations, stressing the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in various fields. He also announced that Libya would be offering scholarships and study places for Serbian students to study Arabic in Libya.
For his part, Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić affirmed the Serbian government's support for the Government of National Unity and its efforts to achieve security, stability, and development in Libya. He emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation in various sectors in the coming period.
In this context, the Serbian side announced during the discussions the opening of a consular affairs office at the Serbian Embassy in Tripoli next May. This initiative aims to strengthen relations between the two friendly countries and facilitate the provision of services to Libyan citizens and the Serbian community residing in Libya. The Serbian side also announced the reactivation of the air route between Tripoli and Belgrade in the near future.
The Serbian side also indicated that it would be offering scholarships to Libyan students to study at universities and learn the Serbian language.
During their discussions, the two sides agreed to activate the joint Libyan-Serbian committee. They also addressed aspects of Libya's participation in Expo 2027, scheduled to be held in the Serbian capital, Belgrade, from May 15 to August 15, 2027.
On the sidelines of the talks, Al-Baour and Dorić signed a memorandum of understanding for political consultations between the two countries.
