The National Water Security Strategy has been finalized.

Tripoli – March 5, 2026 (LANA) – A ceremony was held today, Thursday, at the Ministry of Planning headquarters of the Government of National Unity to finalize the National Water Security Strategy. The strategy was developed under the supervision of a technical committee chaired by the Minister of Planning and including representatives from relevant sectors and institutions. Dr. Sophie Kimkhadze, the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), was also present.

The Ministry of Planning of the Government of National Unity stated that this strategy is the result of intensive work by specialized local and international experts to support the sustainable management of water resources in Libya.

During the meeting, the Minister of Planning received the final version of the strategy in the presence of specialists and experts from both sides. He praised the role played by the UNDP in supporting the development of the strategy, emphasizing the importance of continued cooperation between the two sides to contribute to achieving development goals and enhancing the sustainable management of water resources in Libya.

The National Water Security Strategy serves as a national framework aimed at promoting the sustainable management of water resources in Libya. This is achieved through the development of policies and plans to protect water sources and rationalize their use, thereby contributing to ensuring water security and supporting the requirements of sustainable development across various sectors.
