Signing of a memorandum of understanding for political consultations between Libya and Serbia

Belgrade – March 5, 2026 (LANA) – The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity, Taher Al-Baour, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for political consultations between the two countries today, Thursday, in the Serbian capital, Belgrade, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić. This agreement reflects their shared commitment to strengthening mechanisms for regular coordination and consultation on bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual interest.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity, the Memorandum of Understanding aims to establish an institutional framework for political dialogue between the two countries' foreign ministries. This will contribute to developing diplomatic relations, exchanging views on current political developments, supporting cooperation in international forums and organizations, and enhancing partnership opportunities in areas of shared priority. The memorandum also stipulates holding periodic rounds of political consultations between officials from the two foreign ministries, thereby strengthening communication and ongoing coordination between the two sides.

The ministry indicated that at the conclusion of the talks, Al-Baour and Dorech held a joint press conference during which they reviewed the main topics of discussion, which addressed ways to develop bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in the political, economic, and cultural fields, in addition to exchanging views on a number of regional and international issues of common interest.

During the press conference, both sides emphasized the depth of the relations between the two friendly countries and their commitment to continuing joint efforts to expand the horizons of bilateral cooperation in a way that serves the common interests of both peoples and contributes to strengthening stability and cooperation at the regional and international levels.
