The European Union delegation is organizing a dialogue session on the role of women in media and fact-checking.

Tripoli – March 5, 2026 (LANA) – Ahead of International Women’s Day, the European Union Delegation to Libya organized a media dialogue session at an Iftar dinner, bringing together the EU Ambassador with a number of female journalists, fact-checkers, and media professionals. This event was part of a series of meetings organized by the Delegation to support media freedom.

During the meeting, participants highlighted the growing role of women in the Libyan media landscape, emphasizing the resilience, professionalism, and active contribution of female journalists to enhancing journalistic work, particularly in the areas of professional journalism and fact-checking.

The participants also stressed that women’s work in the media is essential for protecting freedom of expression and ensuring citizens’ access to reliable and independent information, thus strengthening public trust in the media.

The discussions reaffirmed the shared commitment to fostering a free and vibrant media environment, recognizing it as a fundamental pillar of any strong and resilient democratic system capable of meeting challenges.

March 8th marks International Women's Day, an international occasion to celebrate women's social, political, and economic achievements, highlight their rights, and promote gender equality. This day also represents an opportunity to amplify women's voices and reaffirm commitment to supporting their role in various fields, amidst ongoing global efforts to address the challenges women continue to face.
