Pulbished on:

Tripoli, March 4, 2026 (LANA) – The Head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Al-Menfi, received the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to Libya, Hanna Tetteh, on Tuesday evening in Tripoli. They discussed the latest developments in the political process and the UN's efforts to support a comprehensive political process that ends the division and leads to arrangements that guarantee stability and the unification of state institutions.

The meeting addressed the latest developments in the work of the UN mission in Libya and the path it is pursuing during the current phase, including launching a structured political dialogue and supporting economic and institutional initiatives aimed at addressing the existing division.

The Special Representative also reviewed the developments in the economic situation and the challenges related to public financial management, in addition to coordinating international efforts to support the unification of institutions and create the conditions for reaching a sustainable political settlement.

During the meeting, the President of the Presidential Council affirmed that Libyan ownership and a Libyan-led solution are national priorities in any political process. He stressed that confronting and combating corruption is an integral part of any political or economic reform. He explained that restoring public trust requires strict governance of public spending, closing loopholes for waste, strengthening transparency, and supporting oversight and judicial bodies to fully perform their roles.

Al-Menfi pointed to a number of practical steps he has recently taken, including the formation of an economic advisory committee tasked with diagnosing the economic situation and proposing solutions to reduce imbalances. He directed the committee to operate independently and professionally, thereby contributing to the economic reform process.

The President of the Presidential Council reiterated his openness to cooperation with international and UN partners to bolster reform efforts, support the unification of the general budget, and strengthen oversight of resources. This, he emphasized, will positively impact the standard of living for citizens and help eliminate the sources of corruption and the parallel economy.
