Members of Parliament declare the law imposing taxes on goods and services invalid, considering it to have no legal effect.

Benghazi, March 3, 2026 (LANA) – Members of the House of Representatives announced the annulment of the law imposing taxes on goods and services, deeming it legally invalid.

This came in a statement issued after a meeting of several members of the House of Representatives on Monday night at the parliament building in Benghazi.

The members stressed the cancellation of the decision to authorize exchange companies to sell foreign currency outside the framework of the approved banking system, emphasizing that commercial banks are the sole entities authorized to distribute foreign currency and cannot be replaced by private commercial entities.

In their statement, the representatives affirmed that any shortcomings or lack of confidence in the performance of banks must be addressed through oversight mechanisms and institutional reform, and that any violations of these mechanisms will subject officials to legal accountability.

The representatives called for the unification of public spending within a single general budget, ensuring full transparency and subjecting all expenditures to unified financial oversight.

The statement emphasized that amending the internal regulations of the House of Representatives is no longer a postponed option but a necessity imposed by the current circumstances, given the loopholes that have affected the effectiveness of parliamentary work.
