Presidential Deputy Al-Lafi meets with UN Envoy Tetteh

Tripoli, March 3, 2026 (LANA) – Deputy Head of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi met, on Monday, with the Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Hanna Tetteh, as part of high-level consultations on the latest developments in the political process and prospects for advancing it towards a comprehensive and sustainable national settlement.

The Presidential Council's media office reported that Tetteh briefed Al-Lafi on the contents of her recent briefing to the UN Security Council, particularly regarding the proposed pillars of the roadmap and the structured dialogue tracks in the areas of the economy, governance, security, national reconciliation, and human rights. She also discussed the role of the main political actors in developing an integrated approach that addresses the structural causes of the current political crisis and establishes a comprehensive consensus-based path leading to the reunification of institutions and the consolidation of legitimacy and stability.

The office quoted Al-Lafi as emphasizing that any successful political approach must be based on a clear sovereign vision that takes into account the complexities and balances of the Libyan landscape, upholds the principle of national ownership of the political process, and ensures the responsible and serious engagement of all parties. The Presidential Council stressed that it views UN efforts as a supporting factor within a partnership that respects and complements the Libyan will, aiming to formulate a balanced political solution that unites Libyans, preserves the unity of the state, and puts the country on the path to lasting stability.
