Japanese Ambassador and Deputy UN Envoy Discuss Supporting Stabilization Efforts in Libya

Tripoli, February 25, 2026 (LANA) – The Japanese Ambassador to Libya, Izuru Shimura, met with the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and UN Resident Coordinator, Ulrika Richardson, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in supporting peacebuilding initiatives in Libya.
The Japanese Embassy in Libya explained in a post on its official page on Wednesday that the meeting addressed prospects for joint coordination between the two sides to contribute to supporting stabilization efforts and strengthening peace processes in the country.
During the meeting, the Japanese Ambassador presented the Deputy UN Envoy with Hina Matsuri dolls (Girls' Day dolls), a Japanese tradition symbolizing wishes for happiness and prosperity. The dolls feature symbols of the Emperor and Empress on their upper tier.
The statement added that the Embassy extended its best wishes for peace and well-being to all those celebrating the holy month of Ramadan.
