Al-Baour discussed with the new Chinese ambassador the strategic partnership between the two countries

Tripoli, February 22, 2026 (LANA) – The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Taher Al-Baour, met with the newly appointed Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Libya, Ma Xueliang, in the presence of the Director of the Department of Asian and Australian Affairs at the Ministry, Al-Hassan Mohammed Rabha.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through its media office, Al-Baour received a copy of the Ambassador's credentials during the meeting, paving the way for him to begin his official duties in Libya.
Al-Baour welcomed Ambassador Ma Xueliang, wishing him success in his mission and emphasizing Libya's keenness to strengthen its relations with the People's Republic of China and develop the strategic partnership between the two countries in all fields, including the economy, investment, infrastructure, and energy, in a way that serves the common interests of the two friendly nations.
For his part, the new Chinese Ambassador expressed his country's gratitude for all the facilities and support provided by the Government of National Unity and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, which contributed to the swift resumption of his country's embassy operations within Libya.
He also affirmed his country's commitment to strengthening its diplomatic presence and activating the frameworks of the strategic partnership, reflecting the shared desire to propel bilateral relations to broader horizons.
During the meeting, discussions focused on enhancing coordination and joint consultation between the two countries in upcoming international forums and events. This reflects the development of bilateral relations and embodies the level of trust and understanding existing between Libya and the People's Republic of China. Emphasis was placed on the importance of continued political consultation on various regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to working towards a more effective and balanced Libyan-Chinese partnership.
