The Information Authority and the United Nations announce the main features of the Seventh National Human Development Report

Tripoli, February 17, 2026 (LANA) – The General Information Authority, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), announced the main features of the Seventh National Human Development Report 2025, coinciding with the official launch of preparatory work for national community consultations.
According to the Authority, this announcement exemplifies the convergence of national efforts, as the report represents the culmination of collaborative work that combines the Authority's technical expertise with input from various national institutions to ensure the development of a comprehensive reference document.
The announcement was made during a ceremony attended by the Chairman of the General Information Authority, Abdulbasit Al-Baour, and the UNDP Resident Representative in Libya, Sophie Kemekhedrze, accompanied by a number of experts from the Programme and the Regional Office.
Also present at the ceremony were the Head of the Statistics and Census Authority, the President of Brak Al-Shati University, the Head of the Sustainable Development Committee at the Libyan Audit Bureau, as well as a number of directors of sectoral information and documentation centers, research information centers at Libyan universities, deans of faculties, a select group of academics and stakeholders, and the report preparation team.
In his opening remarks, Al-Baour emphasized that this national achievement represents the culmination of intensive technical effort and high-level coordination between national teams and international partners.
He explained that the commission successfully transformed field challenges into technical opportunities, enabling the establishment of a solid foundation for the report. He stressed that moving to the final drafting stage represents a shift from technical analysis to a strategic vision that places the Libyan citizen at the heart of the development process.
For her part, Khemikherz expressed the program's pride in its partnership with the commission, noting that the report employs a scientific methodology that combines international standards with the specificities of Libya to produce a document that supports sustainable development in the country.
The ceremony included a series of comprehensive presentations, beginning with a presentation documenting the report's preparation through its various stages. This was followed by a detailed presentation covering the report's main features and methodological framework, culminating in a presentation of the roadmap for community consultations scheduled to begin in April. These consultations aim to ensure broad national participation that reflects the pulse of the street and the aspirations of the Libyan people.
The event concluded with an open dialogue session featuring a select group of academics and decision-makers, who discussed mechanisms for improving the report's outcomes, emphasizing that it represents a national roadmap for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Libya.
