Addis Ababa, February 14, 2026 (LANA) – The President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, participated today, Saturday, in the opening of the 39th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, amidst a large gathering of African heads of state and government.
The opening ceremony was attended by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, the host country, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and a number of other African leaders.
The summit's agenda focuses on discussing hotspots of tension in the Sahel region, the Horn of Africa, and parts of Central Africa, given the continued threats posed by terrorist groups and the escalation of internal conflicts.
The two-day summit will again address the issue of reforming the operational mechanisms within the Union's bodies, with the aim of enhancing effectiveness, reducing bureaucracy, and accelerating crisis response.
