Benghazi, 10 February 2026 (Lana): UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Hanna Tetteh, and Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar reiterated the importance of continued coordination and dialogue in support of UNSMIL’s efforts to move the political process forward and achieve lasting peace and stability in Libya.

During the meeting of Haftar with Tetteh in Benghazi, in the presence of Deputy Special Representative for Political Affairs Stephanie Koury, they focused on the latest developments in the political process and ongoing efforts to advance the UN-facilitated roadmap toward inclusive presidential and parliamentary elections.

They discussed the lack of progress by the House of Representatives and the High Council of State on advancing the first two steps of the roadmap and ways to overcome these obstacles to restore the political process.

According to the UNSMIL in a tweet yesterday, Tetteh emphasized the value of maintaining engagement with all Libyan stakeholders in support of a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political solution.

She was also briefed on the Structured Dialogue tracks and the ongoing discussions to help establish a consensual path leading to national elections and unified institutions.
