Al-Tarabulsi discusses joint security cooperation between the two countries with the Maltese ambassador

Tripoli, February 8, 2026 (LANA) – Acting Interior Minister Imad Al-Tarabulsi met today, Sunday, with the Maltese Ambassador to Libya, Franklin Aquilina, and the Maltese Consul in Tripoli, Sean Chircop Troisi, to discuss ways to enhance joint security cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the areas of training, capacity building, and combating illegal immigration.

The meeting addressed the importance of developing mechanisms for security coordination and exchanging expertise between the two sides, which would contribute to raising the efficiency of security agencies and supporting training and qualification programs according to approved professional standards, thus enhancing readiness to confront various security challenges.

The two sides also discussed the issue of illegal immigration as a shared challenge, emphasizing the importance of intensifying cooperation in securing borders, combating migrant smuggling and human trafficking networks, and strengthening joint efforts to serve security and stability in the region.

Al-Tarabulsi affirmed the Interior Ministry's commitment to expanding areas of partnership with the Maltese side and supporting technical and training cooperation, which would contribute to building an effective security institution capable of performing its duties efficiently and effectively.
