Bani Walid, February 5, 2026 (LANA) – The Bani Walid Municipal Council announced the completion of arrangements for the funeral of Saif al-Gaddafi, as well as preparations for receiving mourners arriving from various Libyan cities and regions, in cooperation with the city's security and service agencies.
In a statement issued today, Thursday, the council condemned the assassination of Saif, describing the incident as a "treacherous act" aimed at "undermining national unity and the political process" in Libya, warning that such actions would "fuel hatred and fracture national unity."
The statement indicated that the council's response to the Saif al-Islam family's request to bury him in Bani Walid stemmed from "the deep social ties that bind the Warfalla and Qaddadfa tribes," emphasizing that these ties "are based on intermarriage, coexistence, and mutual support, and are evidenced by a long history of shared bonds."
The Bani Walid Municipal Council concluded its statement by affirming that "Bani Walid will always remain a city for all Libyans, regardless of their political affiliations or viewpoints," stressing that it "stands today, as it always has, at an equal distance from everyone."
