Tripoli, 5 February 2026 (Lana) Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Hanna Tetteh, discussed with the Russian Ambassador to Libya, Aydar Aganin, the political process developments and UNSMIL’s efforts to create suitable conditions for holding peaceful and comprehensive elections.

The two parties emphasized the importance of advancing the political process to enhance stability and respond to the aspirations of the Libyan people to end the transitional phases through a sustainable political process.

They also discussed the Structured Dialogue facilitated by the UNSMIL, where Tetteh stressed the importance of ensuring Libyan-Libyan engagements in the process in order for recommendations to be produced and ultimately help create conditions for peaceful elections.

They also stressed the importance of shaping a shared vision for Libya’s future, based on national consensus, respect for the country's sovereignty, and support for Libyan institutions, to enhance the prospects for achieving lasting peace and stability.
