Cairo, February 4, 2026 (LANA) – Egypt and Turkey affirmed their commitment to supporting a Libyan-owned and Libyan-led political process, facilitated by the United Nations, aimed at preserving Libya's security, stability, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political unity.
This came in a joint statement issued at the conclusion of the second meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council between Egypt and Turkey, held in Cairo on Wednesday, co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
In a press conference with his Turkish counterpart, Sisi stated that Egypt looks forward to ending the governmental division in Libya, holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections, and the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya.
He added that he and Erdoğan agreed to support the UN-led political settlement process in Libya, alongside a Libyan-led solution, and he commended the joint efforts with Turkey to achieve stability in Libya.
For his part, the Turkish President affirmed that preserving Libya's unity and territorial integrity to achieve lasting stability remains a shared objective for Turkey and Egypt.
He said at the joint press conference with his Egyptian counterpart, "We agree on supporting the paths that will be implemented under Libyan leadership."
