Ankara, February 4, 2026 (LANA) – Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, announced that the black box recordings of the plane carrying a Libyan military delegation, including Chief of Staff Mohammed al-Haddad, which crashed in Ankara two months ago, show a technical malfunction in two of the aircraft's generators.
Uraloğlu explained in a statement to the Turkish Anadolu Agency on Wednesday that the pilots' cockpit voice recorder indicates a malfunction in two of the aircraft's generators.
He added that the aircraft maintained constant communication with air traffic control before and after the emergency call, and that it experienced an electrical failure.
He stated that the pilots requested to return to the airport and used the aircraft's emergency call sign, and that the aircraft was manually piloted due to a complete failure of the aircraft's systems.
The minister noted that the voice recorder showed that two minutes after takeoff, the pilots reported the failure of the second generator, and approximately one second later, the third generator failed, with no information available regarding the first generator.
Oglu said that the pilots' communications continued briefly, and that all the generators stopped working, then the system was restored and contact was made with the control tower at the airport.
The minister added that contact with the aircraft continued until 8:27 PM local time, when it began to disappear from radar and then crashed at 8:37 PM. He noted that the final decision would be made based on the judicial investigation and expert reports.
The plane crash in Haymana district, near the Turkish capital Ankara, on December 23rd resulted in the death of the Libyan Army Chief of Staff, Field Marshal Mohammed al-Haddad, and his four companions.
