The Attorney General's Office: (Saif al-Gaddafi) was shot and killed

Tripoli, February 4, 2026 (LANA) – The Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed early Wednesday morning the death of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, who succumbed to gunshot wounds.

The office stated that following a report of the death of Saif al-Islam Muammar Gaddafi, investigators acted on the Public Prosecutor's orders, which authorized them to gather information by visiting the scene, conducting an examination, seizing evidence, appointing experts, and interviewing witnesses and anyone who could provide information regarding the incident under preliminary investigation.

The Public Prosecutor's Office explained that the investigation team, accompanied by forensic doctors and experts (weapons, fingerprinting, toxicology, and various other related fields), conducted an on-site investigation on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. The team examined the deceased's body, and the examination confirmed that he had been fatally shot.

The Public Prosecutor's Office indicated that the investigation is now focused on gathering and verifying evidence. The identification of the group of suspects involved in the crime; and the signing of the procedures necessary to initiate public prosecution against them.
