Chad announces plans to open consulates in Benghazi, Sabha, and Kufra, and to establish a direct flight route to Libya.

Benghazi – 03 February 2026 (LANA) – The Chadian Ambassador to Libya, Tahir Asu Youssef, revealed serious efforts to open Chadian consulates in Benghazi, Sabha, and Kufra, in addition to working on establishing air and land freight routes between the two countries. This aims to enhance economic cooperation and leverage the free trade zones.

This came during a meeting between the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, and the Chadian Ambassador on Monday in Qubba. The meeting addressed bilateral relations and ways to develop joint cooperation in several vital sectors.

According to a statement by the official spokesperson for the House of Representatives, Abdullah Blihaq, the two sides discussed prospects for cooperation in education, the economy, investment, trade, and culture, in a way that serves mutual interests and promotes stability and development in the region.

For his part, the Chadian Ambassador conveyed the greetings of the President of Chad to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, emphasizing his country's commitment to developing strategic relations with Libya. He also noted the deep historical ties that bind the two brotherly peoples and Chad's keenness to expand cooperation in ways that benefit both countries.
