Benghazi, January 2, 2026 (LANA) – The House of Representatives' Media, Culture, and Civil Society Organizations Committee reviewed the most prominent problems and obstacles facing the publication and distribution of Libyan books abroad and discussed ways to address them, ensuring a strong and distinguished presence for Libyan culture at regional and international events.

This came during a field visit by the committee's chairman, Jalal Al-Shawehdi, to the booths of Libyan publishing houses participating in the Cairo International Book Fair, as part of the committee's oversight and support role towards cultural institutions and creative individuals.

During his tour, the chairman met with a number of Libyan publishers and writers, listening to their comments and observations regarding the challenges hindering the publishing and distribution process outside Libya, particularly those related to administrative procedures, logistical difficulties, shipping costs, and mechanisms for participating in international book fairs.

Al-Shawehdi affirmed that supporting Libyan publishers is a top priority for the committee, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts to overcome all obstacles hindering the dissemination of Libyan books. This, he explained, would contribute to enhancing Libya's cultural image and highlighting the contributions of its writers and creators to the Arab and international cultural scene.

He clarified that the committee's participation in this major Arab cultural event aligns with the House of Representatives' vision to promote a culture of reading and the localization of knowledge. He noted that Libya has recently witnessed significant progress in organizing local and international book fairs, which necessitates concerted legislative and executive efforts to capitalize on and build upon this cultural momentum.

He added that the Media and Culture Committee believes books represent Libya's true soft power, stressing that listening to publishers' concerns and actively addressing their challenges is a national duty and a guarantee for the continuation of the positive cultural movement currently underway in Libya.
