Dabaiba confirms that urgent measures will be taken to regulate the market and hold speculators accountable.

Tripoli, February 1, 2026 (LANA) – Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dabaiba stressed that controlling prices is a top priority for the government, calling for holding accountable those who speculate and manipulate the prices of basic commodities and for preventing any monopolistic practices or violations that could harm the market or burden citizens.

This came during a meeting he held today, Sunday, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Cabinet Office, Rashid Abu Ghafa, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and Trade, Suhail Abu Shiha, the Director of the Inspection and Follow-up Department at the Cabinet Office, Adel Dhuwair, and the Deputy Head of the Internal Security Agency, to follow up on developments in the prices of basic commodities and animal feed in the local market.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need to take urgent and decisive measures to control prices, protect consumers, and ensure market stability.

During the meeting, the reasons for the price increases were reviewed, compliance with official pricing was monitored, and mechanisms for strengthening oversight of markets and supply and distribution outlets were discussed.

Dabaiba directed the relevant authorities to intensify field inspection campaigns, enhance coordination between the Ministry of Economy and security agencies, and activate deterrent legal measures to ensure the implementation of decisions on the ground and protect citizens' purchasing power.
