Benghazi, January 1, 2026 (LANA) – The House of Representatives' Defense and National Security Committee strongly condemned the treacherous attack targeting the Al-Tum border crossing in southern Libya, considering it a failed attempt to destabilize the region.

In a statement issued today, Sunday, the committee reiterated its deepest condolences to the families of the martyrs who died defending the homeland and protecting its borders, praying that God accept them among the martyrs and grant the wounded a speedy recovery.

The committee stressed that any internal or external support for outlawed armed groups that infringes upon national sovereignty will have serious repercussions for the security situation in the south and neighboring countries, calling on everyone to respect the principles of good neighborliness and abide by international law.

The statement highlighted the swift and decisive response of the Libyan Armed Forces, affirming that the valiant soldiers repelled the treacherous attack with utmost efficiency, and that the Armed Forces will always be vigilant against anyone who attempts to undermine Libya's sovereignty and security.

The committee affirmed that protecting national borders and maintaining security and stability in the south are top priorities, calling on citizens and the international community to cooperate in supporting the state's efforts to confront any armed threats.
