Egyptian Foreign Ministry: The Egypt-Libya-Chad corridor is a key pillar for strengthening African economic integration

Cairo – February 1, 2026 (LANA) – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty affirmed that economic integration and development are fundamental pillars of Egypt's policy towards Africa. He emphasized the strategic importance of leading regional initiatives, foremost among them the Egypt-Libya-Chad corridor, as a pivotal project supporting continental connectivity and enhancing economic cooperation among North and Central African countries.
This came during a meeting held yesterday, Saturday, between the Egyptian Foreign Minister and representatives of African Union organizations and offices accredited in Cairo. He expressed Egypt's deep appreciation for the close cooperation with the African Union and its various institutions, stressing Cairo's commitment to supporting the Union's role in consolidating peace and security and achieving sustainable development on the continent.
Abdel-Aty explained that Egypt, as one of the founding members of the African Union, attaches particular importance to strengthening joint African action. He noted that continental initiatives, including the Egypt-Libya-Chad corridor, the Cairo-Cape Town corridor, and the project to link Lake Victoria to the Mediterranean Sea, contribute to achieving regional integration, supporting the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area, and implementing the African Union's Agenda 2063.
The Minister affirmed Egypt's commitment to the principles of the African Union's Constitutive Act, foremost among them respect for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of states, non-interference in their internal affairs, and support for African solutions to African problems, considering these as fundamental pillars of Egyptian foreign policy.
Abdel-Aty also reviewed the political, security, and developmental challenges facing the continent, emphasizing the important role of African Union organizations and offices in supporting efforts to prevent conflicts, resolve crises peacefully, and promote development and capacity building, in cooperation with the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding.
The Foreign Minister affirmed the Egyptian government's commitment to providing all necessary facilities to the offices and organizations of the African Union operating in Egypt, noting that a large number of them have relocated to the New Administrative Capital, which will contribute to supporting their performance and reflects Egypt's pivotal role in supporting joint African action.
