Tripoli, January 29, 2026 (LANA) – Minister of Economy and Trade in the Government of National Unity, Mohammed Al-Hawij, announced that the ministry has activated its integrated digital system and begun using it as a key tool for governance, oversight, and database connectivity.

This came during a meeting he held today, Thursday, with the ministry's undersecretaries, the head of the General Authority for Exhibitions and Conferences, the head of the General Authority for Investment and Privatization Affairs, the chairman of the board of directors of the Libya Trade Network, the head of the Commercial Registry, the director general of the Credit Guarantee Fund, the director general of the Capital Market Authority, and the director general of the Insurance Supervisory Authority.

Al-Hawij explained that the system will allow for monitoring the movement of goods and commercial activities, regulating import priorities according to the needs identified by the Ministry of Economy, and reducing imbalances that have led to illicit speculative practices.

He emphasized that the Ministry of Economy and Trade will exercise its powers in accordance with the law and without any leniency or exceptions. He affirmed that the Ministry will not hesitate to curb speculators, price manipulators, and those who violate regulations, and will take deterrent legal measures, including withdrawing licenses and removing trade restrictions, against anyone found to have violated or breached applicable laws and regulations.

The Minister explained that the next phase will witness a qualitative shift towards a digital and regulated market management system, based on proactive oversight rather than reactive measures, and on the integration of roles among relevant authorities. This will enhance commercial discipline, protect the national economy, and safeguard market stability and the well-being of citizens.
