Benghazi, January 28, 2026 (LANA) – Zayed Hadiya, head of the House of Representatives' Oversight Committee, stated that Speaker Aguila Saleh's unilateral decision to allocate a budget to the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), and his stipulation that the expenditure be under his supervision, casts doubt on the credibility of the call for elections.
Hadiya believes that issuing this budget allocation to the HNEC at a time when the commission is experiencing internal divisions makes its implementation practically impossible.
Hadiya added that such unilateral decisions, issued in violation of existing legislation and the state's financial law, will further complicate the electoral landscape, especially given the lack of consensus among official institutions, and will present the electoral process with additional challenges related to legal legitimacy and the ability to implement it.
