Benghazi, 28 January 2026 (Lana): UK Ambassador to Libya, Martin Reynolds, and his accompanying delegation visited yesterday the shrine of Omar Al-Mukhtar, the "Lion of the Desert," as part of his visit to Benghazi and his meetings with local officials.

The Deputy Director of Al-Salam Center, Issa Abdul Qayyum, stated that the Ambassador laid a wreath at the shrine and received a detailed explanation of the history of the Libyan resistance against the Italian occupation, the participation of the Senussi army alongside the Allies during World War II, and the Battle of Dignity waged by the Libyan National Army against terrorism in Benghazi.

He also briefed the Ambassador on historical photographs and documents, most notably a file on fascist concentration camps and testimonies of Libyans' participation in World War II, as well as historical artifacts, before being presented with several publications from the Center and awarded the "Al-Mukhtar" medal, and then he wrote a message in the guestbook, describing the Center as "an exceptional museum for an exceptional man."
