Tunis – January 28, 2026 (LANA) – Tunisian President Kais Saied reiterated Tunisia's firm stance on the developments in Libya, emphasizing that the solution can only be "Libyan-Libyan," free from any external interference or attempts to internationalize the crisis, as this would only complicate the political process, he said.

At the same time, during his meeting yesterday, Monday, at the Carthage Palace with Algerian Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Attaf, President Saied stressed Tunisia's commitment to the unity, security, and stability of Libya.

The President affirmed that the position Tunisia has adopted since 2020 is based on the principle that consultation and coordination meetings remain important tools, but not ends in themselves. Rather, they are a means to help the brotherly Libyan people achieve their legitimate aspirations, as they are the only entity authorized to determine their own destiny freely and with full sovereignty.

The Tunisian president also stressed that Libyans alone are capable of determining their political choices according to what the Libyan people deem acceptable, reiterating Tunisia's commitment to supporting any path leading to lasting peace and stability in Libya, while preserving its territorial integrity and security.

In this context, President Saied expressed Tunisia's readiness to host a comprehensive conference where Libyans can freely express their choices and aspirations, noting the wealth of talent and capabilities within the Libyan people that enable them to realize their will and build their future free from any external dictates or interference.

According to the official page of the Tunisian Presidency, the meeting addressed bilateral relations between Tunisia and Algeria, in addition to a number of issues of common interest, foremost among them the latest developments in Libya.
