Tripoli, January 26, 2026 (LANA) – African leaders held a virtual meeting via Zoom on Monday to discuss climate change adaptation. The meeting was attended by the Head of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, at the invitation of the President of Kenya, in his capacity as Chair of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC).
According to the Presidential Council's media office, this meeting is taking place against the backdrop of escalating climate change impacts, continued geopolitical instability, and limited progress achieved at last year's COP30 conference in Belém, Brazil. The meeting aims to examine climate change prospects in light of the growing needs for development and the constraints on climate finance, and to explore high-impact opportunities to support resilient growth.
He explained that the meeting built upon the COP30 climate action agenda – the renewed framework for accelerating action agreed upon in Belém – while seeking to secure funding commitments for the Accelerating Adaptation Program in Africa (AAAP 2.0), launched on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2025.
