Benghazi, January 26, 2026 (LANA) – The Libyan House of Representatives affirmed on Monday that no taxes or fees will be imposed on basic and essential goods for citizens, in response to reports circulating about a proposed tax on production and consumption.
In a statement, the House said that all other matters are still under study and review by the relevant Libyan authorities and institutions. It emphasized that no decision will be made on these matters except in a way that serves the interests of the citizens, supports the national economy, and preserves national security.
The House of Representatives urged media outlets to be accurate in reporting information and to rely on official statements issued by the House.
