Libyan-American coordination to hold the second edition of the economic forum in Benghazi next May

Benghazi, January 26, 2026 (LANA) – The Director General of the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund, Engineer Belqasim Khalifa Haftar, discussed with the US Special Envoy for the Middle East and North Africa, Massad Boulos, the coordination mechanisms and preparations for the second Libyan-American Forum, scheduled to be held in Benghazi next May. This forum aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation and support development and reconstruction efforts in Libya.

This meeting took place during Engineer Haftar's reception of Special Envoy Boulos, Jeremy Berndt, Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Libya, and their accompanying delegation. The discussions focused on ways to develop bilateral relations and explore areas of cooperation of mutual interest.

According to the official page of the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund, the two sides discussed prospects for cooperation between the Fund and the United States, particularly in the areas of development, reconstruction, and infrastructure projects. This cooperation aims to support stability, achieve sustainable development, and improve the level of services provided to citizens in various regions.

The meeting also addressed coordination mechanisms and preparations for the second Libyan-American Forum. Emphasis was placed on the forum's importance as an effective platform for strengthening economic and investment partnerships and opening broader horizons for cooperation between Libyan institutions and American entities in the areas of reconstruction and development.

For their part, US envoy Massad Boulos and Jeremy Berndt expressed their appreciation for the efforts made in the reconstruction file, affirming the United States' support for all initiatives that would enhance joint cooperation, accelerate development, and ensure the success of the upcoming Libyan-American Forum, in a way that serves the common interests of both countries.
