Tripoli, 26 January 2026 (Lana): The EU Delegation to Libya continued its consultations with a broad range of Libyan stakeholders and representatives of local communities within the framework of its efforts to support dialogue, promote inclusivity, and consolidate stability in the country.
According to a tweet by the Head of the delegation, Nicola Orlando, the consultations included representatives of communities west of Tripoli, including the Mayor of Central Zawiya, Samir Ashour; the Mayor of Manshiya, Mohammed Gheetah; and the Dean of Zawiya University, Prof. Issam Abukhadir, as well as municipal leaders, educators, and civil society representatives.
The discussions focused on regional security, local challenges, and ways in which the EU can support the UNSMIL-facilitated, Libyan-led, and Libyan-owned political process.
Participants expressed support for the UN Roadmap, demonstrated openness to dialogue, and talked about the need for inclusivity and a balanced distribution of resources.
“We reaffirmed the EU’s continued support to central and local authorities to advance development, strengthen governance and security, and improve public service delivery, and I renewed my encouragement to all stakeholders to set aside narrow interests and to fully commit to the UN-facilitated political process in support of national unity and stability,” Orlando said.
