Tripoli, January 25, 2026 (LANA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity expressed its reservations regarding holding any meetings or consultations concerning Libyan affairs without the participation of the Libyan state, represented by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This came in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs following the tripartite consultative meeting scheduled to be held today in the Republic of Tunisia, with the participation of the Republic of Tunisia, the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, and in the presence of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Libya.
The Ministry stated that while it affirms its deep appreciation for the fraternal and historical relations that bind Libya to its neighboring countries, it emphasizes that any discussions, arrangements, or consultations concerning Libya must be conducted with the direct participation of the Libyan state through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as it is the official and legitimate body concerned with all matters related to Libya's political future, security, and stability.
The Ministry affirmed that the State of Libya welcomes any sincere regional or international effort aimed at supporting the political solution, provided that Libyan sovereignty and its independent national decision-making are respected, and that the principle of partnership is upheld, and that the competent Libyan national institutions are not bypassed in matters related to these issues. The Ministry reiterated the State of Libya's commitment to positive and constructive cooperation with neighboring countries and with the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), in a manner that contributes to strengthening regional security and stability and fulfills the aspirations of the Libyan people for peace and stability.
