Ankara, January 22, 2026 (LANA) – A report by the Turkish Public Prosecutor's Office has revealed new information regarding the circumstances surrounding the crash of the plane carrying Libyan Chief of Staff Field Marshal Mohammed al-Haddad and his companions in the outskirts of the Turkish capital, Ankara.
The Turkish Anadolu Agency quoted the preliminary report from the Ankara Public Prosecutor's Office stating that al-Haddad's plane crashed into a hillside at an altitude of 1,252 meters at high speed while its engines were running.
According to Anadolu Agency on Thursday, the preliminary report on the investigation into the crash of al-Haddad's plane has been included in the investigation file.
The report indicated that the aircraft, a Dassault Falcon 50 with serial number 9H-DFS, underwent its last maintenance service between December 1 and 9, 2025, and a maintenance completion certificate had been issued.
According to the report, the aircraft, upon takeoff from Esenboğa Airport at 8:17 PM, notified air traffic control at 8:33 PM of an emergency due to an electrical malfunction and requested an emergency landing before disappearing from radar screens at 8:36 PM.
The report indicated that the aircraft crashed into a mountain peak at a height of 1,252 meters at high speed. Its engines were running at the time of impact, resulting in an explosion and the scattering of debris over an area of 150,000 square meters. A flash was recorded after the impact, but there was no evidence of a fire on board.
Anadolu Agency noted that the preliminary report is part of the ongoing investigations being conducted by the Public Prosecutor's Office, while the final report to determine the full cause of the accident is still being prepared.
