The National Planning Council enhances coordination with regional councils.

Tripoli, January 21, 2026 (LANA) – The National Planning Council held its first meeting of 2026 on Tuesday with the heads of regional planning councils. This meeting was part of the Council's efforts to enhance coordination and integration between the national and regional levels and to develop the planning system to serve the comprehensive development process in the country.

The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the National Planning Council, Ahmed Khalifa Ibridan, and attended by the Undersecretary of the National Planning Council, Ismail Mohammed Qarinat, and the Council's Secretary, Faraj Mohammed Juha, along with the heads of the regional planning councils. Participants discussed a number of issues related to the progress of planning work and the challenges it faces.

The meeting addressed the most prominent administrative and financial difficulties hindering the performance of the regional planning councils. Several observations and practical proposals aimed at improving institutional performance, overcoming obstacles, and enhancing the efficiency of administrative and financial structures were reviewed, enabling them to fulfill their role in preparing and monitoring development plans.

The attendees also discussed ways to activate the role of the National Planning Council and regional planning councils, emphasizing the need to strengthen their powers to enhance their ability to actively participate in preparing and implementing national plans and ensuring their alignment with the actual needs of different regions.

The participants stressed the importance of developing a clear and comprehensive action plan aimed at strengthening coordination and continuous communication between the National Planning Council and regional planning councils. This will contribute to unifying efforts, exchanging data and information, and achieving harmony between national plans and local development initiatives.

The meeting emphasized that developing planning mechanisms is a fundamental pillar for supporting sustainable development and achieving optimal use of available resources, which will positively impact the improvement of services and enhance economic and social stability.

The meeting concluded by affirming the continuation of holding periodic meetings and following up on the implementation of agreed-upon recommendations. This will ensure the advancement of planning work and support the state's efforts to achieve balanced and comprehensive development in all regions.
