Benghazi, January 21, 2026 (LANA) – The Libyan Red Crescent's Central Operations Room confirmed its continued humanitarian and field operations and its high level of readiness to deal with the aftermath of the weather conditions and respond quickly to citizens' reports. This comes after the weather gradually returned to normal following a stormy day in Benghazi and surrounding areas, which caused scattered damage and several emergencies.
- Field Readiness and Rapid Response
On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, the Libyan Red Crescent's emergency and ambulance teams in Benghazi intensified their operations within the city through the Central Operations Room system. They responded to a large number of emergency reports, demonstrating commitment and discipline from volunteers and continuous field monitoring of the situation in various areas.
- Various Reports and Emergency Incidents
The media and communications officer at the Benghazi office, Mohamed Wael, explained to the Libyan News Agency that the Red Crescent teams began their duties according to the established procedures, responding immediately to reports and raising the level of preparedness to protect lives and property, especially during the peak of the storm.
The interventions included a fire inside the "Gian Market" mall in the Garyounis area, transporting a fainting person to the central clinic, and responding to the collapse of poles, signs, and walls in several locations, including the Sports City roundabout, Al-Baraka Square, the Al-Ahly Garyounis Club roundabout, and the Tripoli Road.
- Casualties and Humanitarian Cases
The teams also responded to the collapse of a house wall behind the Benghazi lighthouse in the Khreibish area, which resulted in the death of a young man. The body was transported according to established procedures. Additionally, a natural death was recorded in the Al-Kish (Al-Sabala) area, and a person suffering from shortness of breath was transported from the Shabna area to Benghazi Medical Center to receive necessary care.
- Removal of Obstacles and Road Security
Reports included a fallen tree in the Daqadusta area, which was removed from the main road to facilitate traffic flow, as well as a traffic accident in the Al-Salam neighborhood. Other interventions aimed to remove obstacles and secure locations to ensure public safety.

The Libyan Red Crescent's Central Operations Room confirmed its continued high level of readiness and constant field presence, coinciding with the improvement in weather conditions and the return to stability. It emphasized its commitment to continuing its humanitarian and national duty in serving the city of Benghazi and its residents.
