Cairo: Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus agree to support Libyan unity and enhance security in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Tripoli, January 9, 2026 (LANA) – Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus agreed to continue consultations and coordination on issues of common interest, in a way that serves the interests of the three friendly countries and enhances security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean region. They also emphasized the importance of coordinating positions on regional developments, particularly the situation in Libya.

This came during a meeting in Cairo between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty and his Greek and Cypriot counterparts, Giorgos Gerapetritis and Konstantinos Koumbos, respectively, held within the framework of the trilateral cooperation mechanism between the three countries.

During the meeting, the ministers discussed regional and international issues of common interest, including developments in Libya, as well as Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Sudan, and Somalia. They stressed the need to preserve the unity, integrity, and sovereignty of these countries and to support efforts aimed at achieving regional stability and security.

In this context, the ministers emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination and joint cooperation to address current challenges, thereby contributing to supporting stability in Libya, ensuring the security of the Red Sea, and consolidating security and stability at both the regional and international levels.
