Reactivating the fifth gas unit at the South Tripoli power station

Tripoli, January 18, 2026 (LANA) – The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) announced on Sunday the reactivation of the fifth gas turbine unit at the South Tripoli power plant, gradually connecting it to the grid.
The company stated that the reactivation followed the completion of major mechanical and electrical overhauls and all scheduled operational tests, which took more than forty days. These operations were carried out by the plant's technicians and engineers in collaboration with the American company GE, to enhance the plant's production capacity.
GECOL confirmed that restarting this unit is part of its comprehensive plan to maintain its operational performance and extend its lifespan to meet the growing demand for electricity.
