Egyptian-American talks on Libya, Sudan and the Horn of Africa

Cairo – January 14, 2026 (LANA) – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty met today in Cairo with Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs, to discuss Egyptian-American relations in various fields and a number of regional issues, most notably developments in Libya, Sudan, and the Horn of Africa.
Regarding Libya, Minister Abdel-Aty emphasized Egypt's firm stance in support of preserving the unity and territorial integrity of the Libyan state and its rejection of any foreign interference or foreign military presence on Libyan soil.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister stressed the importance of reaching a comprehensive Libyan-led solution that fulfills the aspirations of the Libyan people and preserves the sovereignty of the state and its national institutions.
He also reiterated the need to continue efforts to advance the political process in Libya, leading to simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.
Abdel-Aty pointed to the importance of the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya, considering this a fundamental step towards achieving stability and supporting the path to lasting peace in the country.
