The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity adopts the code of conduct for Libyan missions abroad.

Tripoli, January 13, 2026 (LANA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity has adopted the Code of Conduct and Professional Discipline for Libyan Mission Staff Abroad. This code aims to enhance professional discipline within Libyan missions abroad, standardize professional conduct, and safeguard the reputation and interests of the Libyan state in host countries.

The Ministry emphasized that this code serves as a written and unified framework regulating the professional conduct of mission staff. It establishes clear guidelines for interacting with others, ensuring mutual respect, effective communication, and adherence to diplomatic norms in all official and daily situations. Furthermore, it protects public funds and mission property, and upholds confidentiality and the security of official documents and client data.

According to the Ministry, the code also includes explicit provisions guaranteeing a respectful work environment and prohibiting abuse and discrimination, thereby contributing to enhanced professionalism and improved quality of consular and administrative services provided to citizens.

She explained that adopting this code of conduct represents a significant step towards standardizing behavior within missions, reducing violations, enhancing governance and oversight, and mitigating media and diplomatic risks stemming from undisciplined practices or statements, thereby reinforcing professional commitment and improving performance efficiency and the quality of services provided.
