Head of Civil Aviation Authority: Investigation into Al-Haddad plane crash could take a year

Tripoli, January 2, 2026 (LANA) – The head of the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority, Mohammed Shlibek, announced on Thursday that it is not possible to set a final date for the release of the investigation results into the crash of the plane carrying Lieutenant General Mohammed al-Haddad and his companions, which occurred on December 23 over Turkish territory.
Shlibek explained during a press conference held in Tripoli that the process of analyzing the black box data may take additional time due to the possibility of damage to it. He noted that field and technical investigations usually extend for at least a year before the final results are announced.
The head of the Civil Aviation Authority affirmed the commitment to informing the public of the results as soon as the investigation is completed, stressing the importance of adhering to accuracy and transparency in all stages of the technical and judicial investigation to ensure the credibility of the findings.
