Dabaiba stresses the need to take strict measures against monopolists and price manipulators.

Tripoli, January 1, 2026 (LANA) – Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dabaiba stressed the need for strict measures against monopolists and price manipulators, and a zero-tolerance policy towards any practices that harm citizens' livelihoods or disrupt market stability. He affirmed that price control and consumer protection are top priorities for the government.

This came during an expanded meeting he held today, Thursday, to review the general price levels in the Libyan market and the economic situation and its direct impact on citizens' lives.

The Prime Minister directed the intensification of field visits to markets and the strengthening of coordination between the Ministry of Economy, the Municipal Guard, and other relevant authorities to monitor the flow of goods from ports to points of sale and ensure that merchants adhere to approved prices.

The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister's Financial Advisor, Mohammed Al-Shahoubi; the Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohammed Al-Hawij; the Undersecretary of the Ministry, Suhail Abu-Shiha; the Head of the Executive Team for Presidential Initiatives and Strategic Projects, Mustafa Al-Mana; the Director General of the National Council for Economic and Social Development, Mahmoud Al-Fataisi; the Director of the Follow-up Department at the Prime Minister's Office, Adel Dhuwair; the Head of the Municipal Guard, Major General Rajab Qatousa; and several directors of relevant departments within the Ministry.

During the meeting, the value of the allocated funds for importing essential goods was discussed, along with their impact on market availability and price stability. Challenges related to supply and distribution chains were also addressed, as well as ways to overcome them to maintain balance in the local market.
