Al-Kufra, December 30, 2025 (LANA) – The Al-Kufra Municipal Council has decided to halt truck traffic through the city of Al-Kufra to Chad, following the kidnapping and torture of several residents of the city inside Chadian territory, according to the council's spokesperson.
The official spokesperson for the Kufra Municipal Council, Abdullah Suleiman Hamed, explained in a statement to the Libyan News Agency (LANA) that these precautionary measures, taken immediately, came in response to the kidnapping and torture of a number of Kufra residents inside Chadian territory. He noted that the mayor of Kufra held an emergency meeting with security officials and prominent figures and elders of the city to discuss the repercussions of this incident, which he described as a serious threat to the security and safety of citizens and to stability in the region.
The spokesperson revealed that the meeting's outcomes included halting truck traffic to and from Chad through the Kufra municipality as a temporary precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the kidnapped individuals, condemning the kidnapping and torture of the citizens as a flagrant violation of human rights, and urging Chad to assume its full responsibility for protecting Libyans within its borders.
The measures also emphasized the continued joint efforts between the municipality, security agencies, and prominent figures to pursue the case through all legitimate means until results are achieved that guarantee the safety of citizens.
In closing his statement to LANA, Abdullah Suleiman Hamed stressed that the security and stability of the region is a "red line." Red,” he said, emphasizing that these measures are taken to protect lives and preserve human dignity, while continuously striving for responsible solutions that maintain good neighborly relations.
