AUC Chairperson: Al-Haddad is a Great Loss for Libya and the Entire Region

Addis Ababa, December 26, 2025 (LANA) – The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssef, described the passing of the Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army, Lieutenant General Mohammed Al-Haddad, and his companions as "a great loss not only for Libya, but for the entire region."

In a statement issued yesterday, Thursday, the African Union said that Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssef received "with deep sorrow and sadness the news of the tragic accident that claimed the life of the Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army, Lieutenant General Mohammed Al-Haddad, and four of his accompanying officers, while they were returning from an official trip to Ankara."

The statement added that, according to the text of the condolence message, Ali Youssef offered his sincere condolences to the Libyan authorities and people, and to the families of all the victims of this national tragedy, expressing his full solidarity with the Libyan Armed Forces in the face of this profound loss.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission commended the Libyan authorities for their ongoing efforts to promote peace, stability, and security in Libya and the region.
