Tripoli, December 25, 2025 (LANA) – The General Union of Oil and Gas Workers warned of serious repercussions from the continued delay in approving the sector's budget, considering it an existential threat to workers and the sector's infrastructure, and directly impacting the country's financial and economic stability.
In a statement issued today, Thursday, the union explained that the unjustified delay in approving the budget constitutes a "deliberate obstruction" of a sector that is the sole source of funding for the general budget, the payment of state employee salaries, and the financing of essential service sectors, most notably health, education, and security.
The union indicated that the effects of this delay are already manifesting in the paralysis of training and development programs, the disruption of the healthcare system for its members, the accumulation of debts owed to suppliers, the delay in disbursing financial entitlements, and the deterioration of occupational safety standards within oil facilities.
The union emphasized that these indicators are not merely professional demands, but rather early warnings of the impending collapse of the country's economic cycle. It pointed out that any disruption in the flow of funding to the oil sector will directly impact the state's ability to meet its obligations to its citizens.
The union cautioned that the continuation of the current situation could lead to the shutdown of oil and gas facilities, resulting in a complete paralysis of state institutions. It held historically and morally responsible all those behind the obstruction of the approval of the national budget.
The General Union of Oil and Gas Workers called upon all executive and legislative authorities to intervene urgently and immediately to approve the sector's budget without any further delay, stressing that saving the oil sector today is the true guarantee for the stability of the nation and the future of its people.
