Tripoli, December 25, 2025 (LANA) – Presidential Council member Musa al-Koni mourned the victims of the plane crash that killed the Chief of Staff of the Libyan Army, Lieutenant General Mohammed al-Haddad, and several of his companions, as they were returning from the Turkish capital, Ankara, to Tripoli. He described the incident as a “great loss” that struck Libya during one of its most painful times.

In a statement of condolence published on his official “X” account, al-Koni said that Libya lost in this accident “leaders and a true military conscience who carried the nation’s trust in a time of hardship and trial.” He emphasized that the deceased were “symbols of hope and the salvation of the nation,” and that their lives represented “a message of loyalty to the unity of the nation and the unity of Libya.”

He added that Lieutenant General Mohammed al-Haddad carried the nation's "pledge and mission," and swore to work for the unity of Libya and the restoration of its glory. He emphasized that this approach was embodied in his stances and actions, noting that the Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces, Lieutenant General al-Fitouri Ghraibil, was a "support and companion" to him throughout his military career.

Al-Kouni affirmed that the victims were martyred while returning home after completing a mission "whose title was Libya," considering their departure a "sweeping pain and a testament to the loyalty of their commitment." He prayed that God would have mercy on them and grant them a paradise befitting martyrs.
