The Prime Minister of the National Unity Government officially announces the death of Chief of Staff Mohammed al-Haddad and a number of his companions in a plane crash in Turkey.

Tripoli, December 23, 2025 (LANA) – The head of the Government of National Unity, Abdulhamid Dabaiba, announced the death of Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Mohammed al-Haddad, and his companions, following the crash of their plane as they returned from an official mission to Türkiye.

Prime Minister Dabaiba mourned the loss of Lieutenant General Mohammed al-Haddad and his companions, saying, "It is with profound sorrow and grief that we received the news of the passing of the Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army, Lieutenant General Mohammed al-Haddad, and his companions: the Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces, Lieutenant General al-Fitouri Ghraibil, and the Director of the Military Manufacturing Authority, Brigadier General Mahmoud al-Qatawi.

Also mourned were the Advisor to the Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army, Mr. Mohammed al-Asawi Diab, and the photographer in the Media Office of the Chief of the General Staff, Mr. Mohammed Omar Ahmed Mahjoub, following a tragic accident while returning from an official trip to Ankara, Turkey."

He added, "This immense loss is a great loss for the nation, the military institution, and all the people, as we have lost men who served their country with sincerity and dedication and were exemplary in their discipline, responsibility, and national commitment."

Dabaiba expressed his deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to the families of the deceased and to their comrades in the armed forces, asking God Almighty to grant them His abundant mercy, to admit them to His spacious Paradise, and to grant their families and loved ones patience and solace.
