Ankara, 23 December 2025 (Lana) The Turkish parliament has approved a 24-month extension of the Turkish military mission in Libya, beginning January 2, 2026.
The Anadolu Agency reported on Monday that the parliament's approval followed a vote among its members.
The Turkish presidency, on December 19, submitted a memorandum to the parliament requesting the extension of the mission for Turkish forces in Libya for an additional 24 months.
The memorandum states that the extension aims to protect Turkey’s national interests in accordance with international law and to take all necessary measures to counter security threats posed by illegal armed groups in Libya.
It is worth noting that Turkey deployed its forces to Libya under Article 92 of the Constitution on January 2, 2020. Since then, the presidency has extended the mission every two years, subject to parliamentary approval.
