Customs Authority thwarts an attempt to smuggle more than €123,000 through Mitiga Airport.

Tripoli, 21 December 2025, (Lana) The Libyan Customs Authority announced the thwarting of an attempt to smuggle over €123,000 through Mitiga International Airport.
In a statement published on its website, the Authority said that members of the Investigation Unit of the Tripoli Anti-Smuggling and Narcotics Department, assigned to Mitiga Airport, arrested a Libyan citizen on Friday after he had completed travel procedures and had his passport stamped and was traveling to Turkey and carrying a suitcase, carefully concealed, containing €123,900, which he intended to smuggle out of the country.
The Authority stated that all necessary legal procedures were taken regarding the incident, and the suspect and the seized money were referred to the Tripoli District Attorney's Office for Combating Corruption Crimes.
The Customs Authority affirmed that it will continue its efforts to combat such attempts, to maintain the stability of the national economy, and to deter anyone who dares to violate applicable laws and regulations.
