Al-Menfi discusses with the International Organization for Migration issues and files related to the phenomenon of illegal immigration.

Tripoli, December 17, 2025 (LANA) – The Head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Al-Menfi, met today, Wednesday, with the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Amy Pope, to discuss a range of issues and files related to the phenomenon of irregular migration, and the associated organized criminal activities and security and humanitarian repercussions at the regional and international levels.
During the meeting, held at the Presidential Council headquarters in Tripoli, and attended by the Regional Director of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for the Middle East and North Africa, Othman Belbeisi, and the IOM Country Director for Libya, Nicoletta Giordano, discussions focused on mechanisms to enhance joint cooperation in migration management, combating human trafficking networks, and reducing irregular migration flows.
The Presidential Council's media office quoted Al-Menfi as emphasizing that Libya is a transit country, not a destination country. He stressed the importance of concerted international efforts to address the root causes of irregular migration and support the stability of countries of origin, which would contribute to reducing this phenomenon. He also noted Libya's commitment to constructive cooperation with the IOM, in accordance with international human rights standards and in a manner that preserves the dignity of migrants.
According to the media office, the IOM Country Director affirmed the organization's readiness to continue its technical and logistical support to Libya and to strengthen partnership programs aimed at humane and safe migration management and addressing the shared challenges associated with it.
