Cairo, December 16, 2025 (LANA) – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty affirmed Egypt's unwavering support for the unity and territorial integrity of Libya and the necessity of preserving its national institutions.

This came during a phone call between Abdel-Aty and the US President's Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, according to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry. The call addressed several African issues, primarily the situations in Libya and Sudan, as well as developments in the Great Lakes region, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Horn of Africa.

The statement explained that Abdel-Aty stressed the importance of reaching a comprehensive political settlement, entirely Libyan-owned, leading to simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible, thereby restoring legitimacy to Libyan institutions.

During the call, he also reiterated the necessity of the withdrawal of all foreign forces, foreign fighters, and mercenaries from Libyan territory and the dismantling of armed militias, which would contribute to achieving stability and security in Libya and the region.

Regarding the situation in Sudan, both sides emphasized the importance of supporting Sudan's unity and territorial integrity and maintaining ongoing coordination within the framework of the Quartet. They affirmed their complete rejection of any attempts to divide the country or undermine its stability. Both sides reiterated their condemnation of the treacherous attack on the UN mission headquarters in Kadugli, expressing their full solidarity with the Sudanese people during this critical period.

Minister Abdel-Aty affirmed Egypt's full support for Sudanese national institutions, stressing the need to launch an effective humanitarian corridor that ensures the unimpeded delivery of aid. This should be done in conjunction with increased relief support and enhanced cooperation with the United Nations, the African Union, and relief agencies. He emphasized the importance of concerted regional and international efforts to support a comprehensive ceasefire and create the conditions for launching an inclusive political process that fulfills the aspirations of the Sudanese people for security, stability, and development. He also stressed the need to work towards a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire that guarantees the protection of the unity of the Sudanese state and its national institutions.
